President's Corner

Welcome aboard the State University of New York Maritime College website. I invite you to utilize our site to explore the opportunities offered by the nation's oldest and largest maritime school. The College has trained future leaders in government and private industry--on land and at sea--since 1874.

Our curriculum blends classroom instruction with three summers of international travel aboard America's #1 training vessel, the EMPIRE STATE VI. Our students are exposed to the cultures of the world while honing their skills at either the helm of a 565-foot ship or at the throttle of its 17,000 horsepower engines. This unique combination of theoretical and hands-on practical learning produces graduates who enjoy an outstanding 100% career placement rate.

Maritime students select concentrations in Marine Transportation/Business Administration, International Transportation and Trade, Engineering, Humanities, Naval Architecture, or Marine Environmental Science. Through involvement in our Regiment of Cadets, students also have the opportunity to pursue a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer's License (3rd Mate or 3rd Assistant Engineer) without incurring a military service obligation. For those students interested in the military, several ROTC programs are available.

I invite prospective students to explore our website for Admissions information and to learn more about Campus Life, our Academic Programs and Summer Sea Term. Parents can learn more about the Parents Association and the latest News about the College. Our Events Calendar and Visiting Maritime College pages also provide helpful information, especially for those planning a visit to the campus.

Great things are happening here at SUNY Maritime College! The College is consistently ranked by US News & World Report as having one of the best engineering academic programs in the nation. It is one of 17 colleges and universities to which the Navy sends its enlisted nuclear power engineers to complete their college education. It is one of 10 colleges and universities across the country to receive the prestigious 5-star rating in job placement upon graduation. Maritime students are well equipped to do whatever they wish to do upon graduation, and they have the confidence to be successful in whatever career path they choose.
