Back to Sea!
We left Dublin shortly after midnight this morning and we're now making headway south to the Mediterranean. The streets of Dublin are empty of the SUNY mariners and no worse for the wear. Everyone that was supposed to made it back to the ship in good shape.
Classes began today. The newly arrived cadets are getting used to being at sea, some for the first time and some returning for another cruise. The continuing 1st class cadets are back to work.
Contrary to popular belief, the cadets didn’t spend all their leave at the Guinness factory or in the many pubs of fair Dublin. They were spotted all over the town taking in the culture as well. They were seen at sites such as Trinity College, the National Museum and St Stephen’s Green. Some also spent their time and their allowances shopping in Dublin’s fine stores, especially on Grafton Street.
Tomorrow will be the first Sunday at Sea of the 2nd cruise. If the weather permits, there will be a barbecue for all on the sun deck. Because it is the beginning of the 2nd part of the term and classes just began today, most cadets will have classes for at least part of the day. Next week there should be no classes for our second Sunday which also happens to be the 4th of July. There will be a big celebration that day.
It was a gorgeous, clear day today. The seas were calm as we passed out of the Irish Sea into Bay of Biscay. It got a little rough in the evening, nothing too bad, just some rocking and rolling. Soon the ship will return to the calm waters of the Mediterranean before coming back to these same waters next month for our last port in France.
