- SUNY and the NY State Legislature approved $10 million for the reconstruction of the college pier.
- A new training ship is planned to support a growing regiment of cadets and enhance the continued growth and expansion of waterfront activities.
- Home to a seven million dollar Center for Simulation and Marine Operation containing a state-of-the-art full bridge simulator.
- Campus ‘wired’ and equipped with 9 computer labs with 120 new computers. There are 34 “smart” classrooms. Many parts of the campus have wireless access.
- Students acquire valuable, hands-on training aboard the Empire State VI while gaining exposure to international cultures.
- Cadets will travel to at least 12 foreign countries while attending at Maritime.
- Students participate in over 30 clubs including student government, yearbook, band, water sports and professional organizations.
- Maritime competes at the NCAA Division III level and fields 23 varsity athletic teams.
- The athletic facilities include a newly renovated gymnasium, a 6-lane, 25-yard pool and 2400 square-feet of state-of-the-art weight and fitness centers.
- Maritime sports a new AstroPlay turf field, a renovated baseball complex and one of the best waterfront facilities in the country. Over 375 Maritime students participate in athletics each year.
- Home to the only Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) unit in the New York City metropolitan area.
- Over 70 new students added to NROTC programs for the fall 2006 semester. The Midshipman Battalion now has over 178 students.
- Maritime has 10 MECEP and 25 STA-21 assigned to the unit producing the leaders of tomorrow’s Navy and Marine Corps.
- The Merchant Marine Reserves (MMR) Program continues to grow with 56 students participating in fall 2006.
- Led by alumnus and renowned sailor, Gary Jobson ’73, Maritime’s Waterfront Program boasts a fleet of 20 new Vanguard 420’s and 6 new Vanguard FJ’s sailboats.
