- Cadets who have prior criminal convictions, or who have certain medical conditions, including those that require the use of certain prescription medications, may be found ineligible for a U.S. Coast Guard license and/or Merchant Mariners Document (MMD). Additionally, certain criminal convictions may also preclude a Cadet from obtaining a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), which must be held in order to qualify for, and maintain U.S. Coast Guard mariner credentials.
