The Captain’s License course is being offered on the dates listed below. This course combines both the OUPV course and the License Upgrade, which are being offered this semester as two separate courses.
VTT 09 Captain’s License/100 Ton Near Coastal $1295 Wednesdays, June 6, 13, 20, 27 - 6:00 - 10:00 pm
Saturdays, June 9, 16, 23, & 30 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Sundays, June 10, 17, 24 & July 1 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
The USCG Masters License allows its holder to carry paying passengers on vessels up to 100 tons, (about 70-125 feet long), up to 100 miles offshore. Unlike some licenses that restrict an operator to carry no more than six passengers, the Masters License allows a Captain to carry 7 to 149 passengers, up to 100 miles off shore. (The total number of passengers is set by the USCG who determines the carrying capacity of the vessel, not the license).
To qualify for the license, an individual must document 720 days of sea-time, 90 of which must be gained seaward of the boundary line.
Instruction includes: all practical aspects of boating, including the Rules of the Road, Radio Operation, Survival Techniques, Distress Signaling, Boating Terminology, Boat Equipment, Use of Flares, Use of Life Jackets, Seamanship Techniques, Anchoring, Aids to Navigation, Knot tying, Firefighting, and more.
Upon completion of the course, students will take the USCG licensing examination. Passing students will then submit their Certificate of Completion and applicable paperwork, (including USCG fees), to the USCG Regional Examination Center for processing.
Room: M149 - Limit: 12 Students: Aged 18 or older.
Additional requirements include: Physical, eye and drug examinations, completion of CPR/First Aid training.Weekend days include a one-half hour lunch break.
