Online Marine Surveying
Looking for professional continuing education? Looking to expand your current market? Or just interested in CEU credits? Maritime College is proud to offer a unique online certificate program in Marine Surveying. In partnership with the SUNY Learning Network, Maritime College has a fully interactive solution for industry professionals who wish to gain knowledge and experience in this field. Maritime’s Professional Education and Training is dedicated to providing online classes that assist in developing critical competencies needed to be competitive and successful in today's marine survey environment. We provide a rich resource of knowledge and experience in three inter-related areas: interpersonal skills, self-management skills, and job specific skills. We can help you to develop your skills as a Marine Surveyor, establish effective communication, basic and advanced skills, and more!

What's Online Learning Like?
Contrary to what you might think, learning online is highly engaging and offers many opportunities for interaction with both fellow students and faculty members.

How Online Continuing Education Works
You will find our Professional Maritime courses self-paced courses that occur in the virtual classroom with entire courses and exams online. After successfully passing the course, you will receive your certificate allowing you to receive the CE credits you deserve.

Classroom Format
The courses are conducted by a facilitator competent in the field. Reading materials, personal assignments, and discussion questions are provided. The heart of the class is the discussion questions. This is where you will be able to share ideas and get feedback with others in the class.

The format is "asynchronous." That means it is not "live" so you can determine what time of day you want to be online. You will receive the equivalent of 40 hours of regular classroom instruction within a 45 day time period. Classes may run 4 to 8 weeks depending on the subject. You should plan to be involved approximately 2 hours per day, which includes reading course materials, doing activities, and participating in the class discussions.

The Marine Surveying online programs, including Cargo Surveying, Hull Surveying, and Yacht Damage Surveying-are perfect for new surveyors and those wishing to cross-train in different disciplines.  The program is also a great resource for claims adjusters, insurance underwriters and investigators.

Students will become familiar with the role of a surveyor, the capacity with which a surveyor works, and the direction to follow to develop their own expertise in the field. The latest trends, technologies, and best practices will be covered. Upon successful completion of all course work, online candidates will have a solid understanding of these fields and be ready to work in many different aspects of marine surveying.  These courses will prepare students for professional association exams such as NAMS, SAMS, ABYC and IIMS, will improve job performance, and boost career advancement.

We use various formats to deliver the course including PDF, PowerPoint, audio files and video media clips. Group interaction is an important element of the learning environment and is encouraged in our programs. Tools for discussions and questions are easily achieved though the SUNY Learning Network. There are many opportunities to interact, network and study with your online classmates.

Each of our online marine surveying courses carry 40 contact hours which can be converted by your accrediting organization based on their unique formulas for Continuing Education units (CEU). CEUs are a nationally acknowledged standard for recognizing the completion of non-credit professional development learning activities from an approved provider. One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is generally credited for each ten contact hours of qualified training.
