Program Outline
You can pursue the Master of Science degree in International Transportation Management in three ways:
- Regular Track (33 credits)
- Supply Chain Management Certificate in addition to the Master of Science degree (39 total credits)
- Graduate License Program (33 credits plus an additional 64 credits of classes, including sea-time on the College's training ship, that prepares the student to take the United States Coast Guard (USCG) 3rd Mate's License Exam)
Policy on Pre-requisites:
Students are required as first priority to satisfy all program pre-requisites.
Grades in classes submitted by applicants to satisfy program prerequisite courses will be evaluated by the graduate faculty on the basis that grades below a C are unacceptable, and that grades in the range “B- to A” are preferred. Students who have been accepted to the MS degree program and are required to take courses to satisfy prerequisites are held to the standard that a “B-“ or better must be attained in each newly completed prerequisite course in order for that requirement to be satisfied.
After Pre-requisites, Do the Core Courses:
The second order of priority are the six mandatory Core Courses (TMGT 7000-Level courses). Last priority is to complete the specified number of electives required for your program of choice. Please note that students who have not completed all Core Courses cannot electronically register for electives. In order to register permission must be given by the department chair and the student must engage in a manual registration process.
**All incoming students have the responsibility, after completing the Admissions process, of making an appointment with either the department chair or their designated academic advisor.

Graduate classes are held in the historic Fort Schuyler, named after Revolutionary War General Philip E. Schuyler. The granite walls of the fort have seen many changes of season, as can be attested to in this photo of the aftermath of a recent snowfall.
Regular Track Program Outline
**NOTE: You may click on any highlighted course number to view a general syllabus for the course.**
Pre-requisites:
- MATH 111 - Applied Business Calculus
- MATH 446 - Operations Research
- MATH 251 - Business Statistics
There are two types of pre-requisites. One type is described above, and these seven courses (or their authorized equivalents) we expect students to have accomplished successfully as undergraduate work at the time they come into the program. If not already accomplished, a new student's first academice priority is to enroll in and successfully pass with at least a "B-" any missing pre-requisite. The second type is below, which is mandatory for all graduate students. You cannot electronically register for graduate classes if you do not first register for TMGT 6001. You must pass this course in order to register for graduate classes in the following semester. At the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester, the GBAT department stages a new Graduate Student Orientation event that is part of the curriculum for TMGT 6001, and represents a significant portion of the class grade. All new graduate students are required to attend the event.
Professor Joe Ahlstrom makes a presentation on the International Safety Management System during a recent GBAT Conference on Cutting Edge Issues in Shipping (the annual “Groundhog Day Event.”)
