About the Master of Science in International Transportation Management

Congratulations! You are embarking on a career path that will reward you with exciting challenges, stimulating environments, and financial returns. As a recent graduate, you are entering a program that will propel you into the shipping and transportation industry with a skill set that guarantees rapid advancement. Or, as a current worker in the industry, you are raising your profile with qualifications that affirm and validate your abilities as a leader. This unique curriculum is a business degree specifically focused on shipping, intermodal transportation, supply chain management, and security.

Alongside top international students, you will opt for a career with any major maritime organization, or work independently for yourself. Fulbright Scholars knowingly take advantage of this unique program. Vasiliki Sapouna, Fulbright student from Greece, offered, "I could have chosen any university in the world but I chose SUNY Maritime for its outstanding international reputation." Other students praise Professor Weiss' Charter Party Courses: "He teaches us how to smell the money in Charter Party transactions."

Maritime College is now offering the Master of Science (M.S.) in International Transportation Management both in residence and online. Chris Mercurio, a current graduate student, speaks to the online program, frequently called distant learning, as a "fast-paced, in-depth study of the multiple issues that impact the international trade community. The program combines real world examples and academic studies to craft a complete understanding of how the entire transportation network functions. It is a solid core education for mid-to upper level management in the maritime industry and government relations." In addition to the M.S. degree, options are available to "Sea the World" and earn a 3rd Mates Deck License, or receive a professional certification for Supply Chain Management.

The Graduate License Option. Students in the Graduate License program will not only take the graduate courses with their contemporaries, but will also become a member of the Regiment and take Marine Transportation courses. License students will enjoy a cruise in three consecutive summer sea terms. Each cruise is a two month event that encompasses trips to both domestic and European seaports. License graduates will be Coast Guard licensed 3rd Mate Deck Officers. Graduate courses are in the late afternoon, evenings, and/or on weekends. F1 visa students will have to comply with immigration laws relative to work. The License option is not available online.

Semesters begin late August and again in mid January. Since we are part of the State University system, our tuition for International Students and out-of-state students is dramatically less than that of other comparable major universities. In-region tuition is offered to those residing in U.S. states bordering the Atlantic Ocean. We are friendly to veterans and welcome service members and their respective family members alike.

Maritime's beautiful location, on the banks of the East River and Long Island Sound, provides the student with the most scenic settings for campus life. The proximity to New York City places you in the middle of shipping, finance, chartering, insurance, and trade industries.
