Dear May Graduation Candidates:
The weather reports for Friday are predicting an inch or two of rain, temperatures in the 50s and winds of 15-20 mph.
As a result, the college will move the commencement ceremony to Riesenberg Hall gymnasium. Due to space constraints, each student is limited to four tickets. Any guests, except infants not in carriers, will need a red rain ticket to enter the gym.
Every student recieved two red rain tickets in their graduation packets. You can pick up your two additional red rain tickets when you check in at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 5, in the Office of Student Affairs in Baylis Hall. The white tickets are no longer valid.
Additional guests will be able to watch the commencement live stream in the multipurpose room in the Maritime Academic Center.
Tuesday, April 18th
10:00am – 4:30pm - Pick up of invitation and entry tickets for graduation. On or after this day, you may pick up your invitation and entry tickets from Ms. Pat Norman in the Office of Student Affairs. Only the graduate can pick up their tickets and identification will be required at that time.
Each student is entitled to five (5) tickets that permit the respective guest to sit under the tent in St. Mary’s Pentagon. Additional guests may attend (no ticket required), but they will not be permitted into the reserved sitting area under the tent. They may bring a chair to sit in the back, umbrellas and rain gear in case of inclement weather. There is no alternative venue for inclement weather. Commencement will take place in St. Mary’s Pentagon, rain or shine.
Thursday, May 4th
6:30 PM – Senior awards ceremony – Special events rooms. Recipients of said award are notified by their respective Department Chair. Due to limited space, you are allowed only two guests. Please RSVP to Rosemary Ryan 718-409-3305. Dress is business attire for civilian students. The uniform for cadets is Salt & Peppers.
Friday, May 5th - Commencement Day
10:40 AM – Formation of academic procession. East curb, south side of Sallyport. The dress is cap and gown for civilian and graduate students. The uniform for cadets will be Salt & Peppers. Officers will wear appropriate service uniforms.
11:00 AM – Commencement ceremony begins
At Commencement all students will be inspected for proper grooming. Students failing to meet grooming standards will not be permitted to participate in the Commencement ceremony.
Caps and Gowns (civilian students)
Must be ordered through the Ship’s Store, no later than April 10, 2017. Details may be found at: www.collegegrad.herffjones.com or notify the ship store at: firstname.lastname@example.org. You will need the following information when you contact them: your height and the type of degree you will be receiving.

Diploma and USCG License pick-up
Diplomas will be distributed after commencement in the Student Affairs Lobby (Baylis Hall). If your license is available from the US Coast Guard, they will be distributed after Commencement in the Student Affairs Lobby (Baylis Hall).
Absent from Commencement
a) Diplomas will be returned to the Office of the Registrar. Diplomas may be picked up from that office on any normal business day after Commencement. (It is suggested that the student call first before coming to the Registrar’s Office 718 409-7266).
b) USCG Licenses will be returned to the Coordinator of Licensing in the Student Affairs Office. Licenses may be picked up from that office on any normal business day after Commencement.
To participate in commencement exercises in May, students must satisfy all requirements for their degree prior to commencement. Students who do not successfully complete all degree requirements are ineligible to participate.
For license students, degree requirements include passing all modules of the USCG license exam.
Outstanding accounts or property owed to the college must be settled before a student is allowed to participate in commencement. The Enrollment Services/Registrar’s Office, including Financial Aid and Student Accounts, is located in Baylis Hall and is open Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm.
