Parking Violations
Violation of Parking Regulations.

  1. For vehicles registered with the College, a SUNY Maritime College summons will be issued for violations of the College parking regulations.
  2. The prosecution of visitors and other vehicles not registered with the College shall be in accordance with applicable SUNY regulations or Local law.
  3. The College reserves the right to remove, by towing or otherwise, vehicles parked in violation of the regulations, or abandoned. Such removal will be at the expense of the decal registrant or owner of the vehicle.
     
Fines and Penalties for Parking Violations

  1. For parking violations, written on a SUNY Maritime College Summons, the offender will be fined twenty five dollars. All fines are payable to the Bursar and all monies deposited in the State University Income Fund account.
  2. Fines and penalties for parking violations written as infractions of New York City Parking Regulations shall be as prescribed by Local Law and adjudicated by the NYC Parking Violations Bureau.
  3. In the case of students with unpaid fines, grades and transcripts will be withheld until the fines are paid. All fines are considered debts due the College and must be paid prior to the campus vehicular reregistration procedure at the commencement of each fall semester.
  4. Revocation of campus motor vehicle registrations and a loss of parking privileges for the balance of the academic year may result upon a finding that 10 or more parking violations have been incurred during an academic year.
  5. A vehicle immobilizer may be affixed at the owner’s expense by the University Police Department, to any vehicle parked in violation of these regulations, where there is a need for prompt seizure of such vehicle, or after reasonable efforts to learn the name and address of the owner or operator and collect outstanding fines have been unsuccessful. The fee for removal of such vehicle immobilizer equipment shall be $25 and payment of any outstanding parking fines.

 Campus Parking Summons Appeal Procedure.

 

  1. Any student of the SUNY Maritime College or other person who feels that he/she has been wrongfully issued a SUNY Maritime College parking summons may, within 14 calendar days after receiving the summons, submit his/her appeal to the University Police on the appeal form provided by the University Police.
  2. All the required information on the appeal form must be entered legibly to be considered and the appeal form should detail the reasons why the appeal should be granted.
  3. The chief administrative officer shall designate a Hearing Board, not to exceed three persons, to review appeals for violation of campus parking regulations.
  4. Such Hearing Board shall not be bound by the rules of evidence, but may hear or receive any testimony or evidence directly relevant and material to the issues presented. A notice of the decision of the Board shall be promptly transmitted to the violator if an address for such mailing or an E-mail address has been provided on the appeal form, and no violation will be referred to the Bursar for payment before a pending appeal has been decided.
