A collection of black marks on white paper, Absolute Zero, by Kevin Boon, challenges the reader to discern fiction from non-fiction as it traces the life of the book’s central character, Justin Time.

Fast moving and intriguing from the start, Absolute Zero begins when the unassuming and introspective Time stops aging at the age of 17. This begins a wacky and raucous journey for self-definition. Follow Time as he reluctantly achieves cult idol status and encounters quirky characters.

There’s Frank, Time’s best friend. A down-to-earth poet, Frank makes it into the Guinness Book of World Records for “Numerogenesis,” the world’s shortest poem and garners critical fame for his uncanny ability to generate apathy in his readers. There’s Linda Hand, Time’s lonely love. She believes that books can change lives, and becomes the unwitting puppet of The Institute for Mental Enhancement, a non-profit organization created to profit from Time’s fame. There’s Sonny Day, Time’s diabolical literary agent. He suffers from multiple personality syndromes and shares his body with Deadly Ernest, a slayer of Elvis impersonators.

Then there’s Pastor Rover and Noah Fence. A televangelist and leader of the Holy Church of the Divine Grace, Pastor Rover considers Time “the nature of evil” and is bent on ending Time’s reign. Fence is Time’s antagonist. He chases Time through the years to avenge the death of the father he never knew.

Craig Nova, the acclaimed author of The Good Son and The Universal Donor calls, Boon, a teacher, writer and musician, “one of those rare writers whose heart is in the right place … whose talent is perfectly under control … someone you can trust.” Louise Hawes, author of Rose in the Present Tense, calls Absolute Zero “a human allegory with muscle and heart.”
