On Campus Employment
As a benefit of having an F-1 student visa, you may work on campus at SUNY Maritime College, without having to apply for employment authorization from International Student Services.
However, you must notify ISS of your current on-campus position(s). Provide the international student advisor with a letter from your employer stating the type of employment and hours to be worked.
To remain eligible for on-campus employment you must comply with the rules:
- Maintain your F-1 student status
- Cannot work more than 20 hours per week while school is in session; full-time employment is allowed during scheduled school breaks if there is an intention to enroll for the following semester
- Enroll in a full-time course load each semester
Places to seek employment on campus:
On campus jobs may not be advertised in plain sight or be available for hire. It is your responsibility to search for employment within the departments on campus. Contacting the career counselor for advice is another option in your hunt for employment.
