Travel on OPT
In most cases, re-entry into the United States will not be possible once you have completed your program of study. If you intend to travel, you will assume the risk that you may not be able to re-enter the country even with the proper documents in your possession.
We strongly discourage travel outside of the U.S. in any case of pending or approved OPT. If you choose to take the risk, when you are in a pending status, you must be able to present a USCIS Processing Center Receipt that shows proof your application has been filed. If you have been authorized for OPT, you will need to provide your EAD card and a valid offer of employment letter.
If your visa has expired and you have a pending OPT application, wait (until your OPT application has been approved) to travel. A visa will not be issued to an OPT applicant in pending status.
