Bringing/Buying a Computer

There a multiple campus computer labs and wireless hotspots for student use. See Labs & Learning Centers, under the Student Menu on the Left hand side of the page, for locations. It is advised to contact your proposed major's department to find out approximately how much you will be using a computer, as this tends to differ across disciplines. An Engineering Major will most likely use a computer for class work more then someone with a Marine Technology Major.

The computer labs are equipped with Windows XP based systems and internet access. If you are a student who needs piece and quiet while working or studying, you might want to think about investing in your own computer. However, if working on a paper or project with a group of friends is more your style, then the computer labs, especially those in your own dorm, will work the best.

Each dorm room has a network connection to get out to the internet, for each occupant. Streaming Audio and Streaming Video blocked to the dorm rooms, this is done to allow a larger bandwidth for academic work.

The Department of Information Technology does not work on Student Machines. If you are planning on purchasing a new machine, make sure the warrenty covers 3 to 4 years of on site support.

The Regiment does make available an IT Rate(s), for student assistance. See Getting Help, under the Student Menu on the Left hand side of the page, on how to Contact this Semesters IT Rate(s).
