Directions
Location: The Maritime Industry Museum is located on the campus of the SUNY Maritime College in Throggs Neck, which extends onto the East River at its juncture with Long Island Sound. It lies partially under the Throggs Neck Bridge on the Bronx side. Pennyfield Avenue is the main access road.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
From Manhattan: Take the Lexington Avenue subway (Pelham Bay Local No.6) to Westchester Square Station. Outside of station, on the corner of E. Tremont Avenue & Westchester Avenue, take MTA bus marked BX40/Fort Schuyler directly to the gate of the College, which is the last stop on this bus route.
The MTA Bus Service offers express bus service between Manhattan and Throggs Neck along Madison Avenue. Call (718) 994-5500 for stop information. The stop for Fort Schuyler is at the intersection of Pennyfield and Harding Avenue, approximately 1/2 mile from the campus
Call the MTA for transfer points from other buses to the BX40/Fort Schuyler.
BY AUTOMOBILE:
From Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island via Throggs Neck Bridge: Use the extreme right toll booth and exit immediately on your right after paying toll. Proceed to the second stop sign and turn left, crossing over the Expressway and bearing left onto Pennyfield Avenue. Take Pennyfield Avenue to the end. The college front gate is to the left.
From Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island via Whitestone Bridge: Use the extreme right toll booth and proceed straight ahead onto the Hutchinson River Parkway Service Road after paying toll. Turn right at the traffic light (Lafayette Avenue) and proceed alongside cemetery to the next traffic light (Throggs Neck Expressway Service Road) and make a right. Proceed alongside cemetery (stay to your left) and just after the next traffic light, take the ramp (on the left) onto the Expressway. As you approach the Throggs Neck Bridge toll plaza, stay in the extreme right lane and exit to the right at the Harding Avenue/Fort Schuyler exit (last exit before the toll). Make a left at the foot of the ramp and then a quick right onto Harding Avenue. Proceed to stop sign (Pennyfield Avenue) and make a left onto Pennyfield Avenue and take to the end. The college front gate is to the left.
From Connecticut: Take New England Thruway South, or Merritt Parkway South to Hutchinson River Parkway South. Follow signs to Throggs Neck Bridge. As you merge toward toll plaza, MOVE TO THE EXTREME RIGHT LANE as quickly as possible; highway traffic will be approaching from your right, so be careful. Exit to the right at the Harding Avenue/Fort Schuyler exit (last exit before the toll). Make a left at the foot of the ramp and then a quick right onto Harding Avenue. Proceed to stop sign (Pennyfield Avenue) and make a left onto Pennyfield Avenue and take to the end. The college front gate is to the left.
From West Side Manhattan and New Jersey: Use the Cross Bronx Expressway and follow signs to the Throggs Neck Bridge. As you approach the Throggs Neck Bridge toll plaza, stay in the extreme right lane and exit to the right at the Harding Avenue/Fort Schuyler exit (last exit before the toll). Make a left at the foot of the ramp and then a quick right onto Harding Avenue. Proceed to stop sign (Pennyfield Avenue) and make a left onto Pennyfield Avenue and take to the end. The college front gate is to the left.
From East Side Manhattan: Follow East River Drive/Triboro Bridge to Bruckner Expressway. Continue on Bruckner Expressway, following signs to the Throggs Neck Bridge. As you approach the Throggs Neck Bridge toll plaza, stay in the extreme right lane and exit to the right at the Harding Avenue/Fort Schuyler exit (last exit before the toll). Make a left at the foot of the ramp and then a quick right onto Harding Avenue. Proceed to stop sign (Pennyfield Avenue) and make a left onto Pennyfield Avenue and take to the end. The college front gate is to the left.
