MuseumHistory

The museum was established in 1986 when Captain Jeffrey W. Monroe, a former Associate Professor of Marine Transportation at the Maritime College, had a vision of creating a museum to fill the stone corridors of the old Fort and provide a nautical atmosphere for the cadets on their way to classes, with the help of Jack Hayes '47, Rear Admiral Floyd H. Miller '53, Robert G. Herbert '24, Joe R. Gerson '47, John D. Daniel '40, and Cadet Erhard Koehler '87.

Since then, steamship lines, related companies in the maritime industry, and merchant marine history buffs donated objects and artifacts to supplement the museum collection. The Musem is home to over 700 ship models and exquiste maritime art, photos, and artifacts.

The Museum celebrated its 20th Anniversary honoring its founding members at Homecoming on September 16th, 2006.
