NROTC UNIT
Navy ROTC is a military commissioning program that develops highly motivated college students into leaders of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. The NROTC Program mission is to develop Midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically, and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty, and with the core values of honor, courage and commitment in order to commission college graduates as naval officers who possess a basic professional background, are motivated towards careers in the naval service, and have a potential for future development in mind and character so as to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government.
Navy ROTC Unit SUNY Maritime College is an active duty Navy command hosted by the Maritime College in historic Fort Schuyler. The unit is responsible for training students from the Maritime College as well as Fordham University and Molloy College in four distinct commissioning programs:
Navy/Marine Corps ROTC
Merchant Marine Reserve (MMR) USNR Midshipman Program
Navy Seaman to Admiral – 21st Century Program
Marine Enlisted Commissioning and Education Program (MECEP)
The Navy ROTC Unit is also an academic department within the college. As the Department of Naval Science, its academic courses provide instruction geared to developing an understanding of the operational techniques employed by the United States Navy and Marine Corps, the interrelationships between the Navy and the Merchant Marine, and fundamental concepts of leadership and management. Most Naval Science courses are open on a space available basis to any undergraduate student in the college.
