LtCol Gregory A. Wynn

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

Executive Officer, Marine Officer Instructor, NROTCU SUNY Maritime College

Lieutenant Colonel Wynn was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He graduated in December 1993 from Millersville University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in History and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Marine Corps via the PLC Program. He graduated from The Basic School in April 1995 and from Basic Communications Officers Course Quantico, Virginia in November 1995. 

He subsequently was assigned to 3d Marine Regiment at Kaneohe, Hawaii as the S-6(A) and the Regimental Communications Platoon, Platoon Commander. In February 1996, he was assigned as the S-6 Officer and Communications Platoon, Platoon Commander with 1st Battalion, 3d Marines. From 1998-1999 he was the Company Commander for the Headquarters & Service Company 1st Battalion, 3d Marines. Captain Wynn participated in two UDP rotations with the battalion.

In April, 1999, Captain Wynn was assigned to the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF), I MEF at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He served as the S-6 Officer, Communications Platoon, Platoon Commander and the Headquarters Element Officer-in-Charge. In June, 2000 the Commandant of the Marine Corps desired to relocate CBIRF closer to the National Capital Region. Captain Wynn transferred with the unit to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head, Maryland. In October 2000 he was assigned as the Company Commander for the Reaction Force Company, CBIRF and served in this capacity until June 2002. During this time, Captain Wynn participated in Operation NOBLE EAGLE in various capacities, notably during National Special Security Events and the congressional anthrax attacks response. He also, twice, led CBIRF detachments in Bahrain in support of CENTCOM coalition efforts.

In June 2002 he was assigned as a Satellite Communications Project Officer, Marine Corps Systems Command Quantico, Virginia. Captain Wynn was promoted to Major in November, 2003. He subsequently was assigned as the Satellite Communications Team Leader, MARCORSYSCOM.

Major Wynn attended the U. S. Marine Corps Command & Staff College from August, 2005 - June, 2006 and graduated with a Master of Military Studies degree.

Major Wynn was assigned as the Inspector-Instructor for Communications Company, 4th Marine Logistics Group in Greensboro, North Carolina in July 2006. He served in this billet until June 2009 when he was selected to serve as the Executive Officer and Assistant Professor of Naval Science at the Maritime College, State University of New York.

LtCol Wynn was promoted to his current rank in the fall of 2009.

LtCol Wynn's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal, 3 awards.
