NROTC Midshipmen
Students may participate in the NROTC program through either the Scholarship or the College Program. College Program Coast Guard license students who are not receiving Navy subsistence allowances may also participate in the MMR program. The Scholarship Program provides payment of all tuition and academic fees, uniforms, a textbook allowance and a monthly subsistence allowance ranging from $250.00 to $400.00. Room fees may be waived by the Maritime College for 4-Year NROTC Scholarship students. Upon graduation, scholarship students will receive a commission in the active duty Navy or Marine Corps. The active duty commitment for scholarship students is four years with an additional four years in the reserves.
For high school graduates who did not applied for or were not offered the 4-Year NROTC scholarship and currently enrolled undergraduate students prior to the start of their sophomore year, the NROTC College Program provides an opportunity to pursue 2 or 3-year NROTC Scholarships and earn a commission in the Navy or Marine Corps.
Until the start of their Junior year, NROTC College Program students participate in NROTC training identical to NROTC Scholarship Midshipmen, without the financial benefits or service obligation. The Navy provides uniforms and books for Naval Science courses; the student pays all other expenses (tuition, room & board, any other fees). Cadets in the Maritime College Regiment of Cadets train in their college uniforms and receive payments in lieu of Navy-issued uniforms. Top-notch College Program students are nominated by the unit twice a year for 2 or 3-Year NROTC Scholarships.
College Program Midshipmen who are not offered scholarships prior to junior year may apply for advanced standing. If selected, the Midshipman receives a monthly stipend of $350 or $400 for the junior and senior years and enjoys the same career opportunities after commissioning as the Scholarship Program Midshipmen. College Program graduates serve 3 years on active duty and 5 years in the reserve.
NROTC Program Midshipmen complete 1 to 3 summer training periods in addition to Maritime Summer Sea Terms. Students select Navy or Marine Corps options when joining the program
