Welcome to the Stephen B. Luce Library Web Site. The Library is named in honor of Admiral Stephen Bleecker Luce (1827-1917), an outstanding educator and seaman and an effective and persistent advocate for the establishment of state nautical schools. The Luce Library, recipient of the AIA/ALA award of merit for outstanding library design, occupies 19,000 square feet of the north wing of historic Fort Schuyler on the Throgs Neck peninsula in the Bronx.

The library's circulation and reference collections represent a well rounded collection of over 80,000 volumes with special strength in marine engineering, naval architecture, marine transportation, oceanography, transportation economics and management, and meteorology. We currently subscribe to approximately 374 magazines and journals. The library is known for its impressive archival collections that document Maritime History since 1700's. In addition to the print and microform resources, we subscribe to a variety of full-text online databases accessible via the Internet.

Highly qualified librarians and support staff are dedicated to working with library users, assisting them in using the library and discovering the library's resources. Please take a moment to meet our staff at "Meet the Staff" site or even better, stop by the library to meet them in person. Personalized attention is our strongest asset. We are here to welcome you to the library and assist you in your scholarly pursuits.

I encourage you to explore our library collections, use our services, and make recommendations for purchase or improvements.

Enjoy your visit!
