Dear Friend of the Library,

The Stephen B. Luce Library is one of the oldest and most specialized Nautical Merchant Marine Libraries in the Nation. The Luce Library is dedicated to the values of education and to the preservation of the Merchant Marine history and heritage with collections dating back to 1700's.

The Library collections support the Maritime College academic curriculum with special strengths in: Marine Engineering; Naval Architecture; Marine Transportation; and Transportation-Economics. Renowned collections such as the Stephen B. Luce Library Special Collections and Archives serve the interest and scholarship of the alumni, authors, scholars and the public.  The Library's state of the art technology, electronic and digital resources bring a wealth of knowledge to our students enhancing their educational endeavors and expert training at SUNY Maritime College.

Like most academic libraries in the United States the Stephen B. Luce Library faces many challenges, including:

 The rapid rise in the cost of books and journals essential to the quality of education and research

 The deterioration of books due to acidic paper

 The preservation of historical collections

 The integration of electronic texts, research databases, computers and technology equipments

Ways to Participate

Luce Library Partners in Education -- $500.00   Add your name recognition to the family of friends and library donors displayed in the Stephen B. Luce   Library Hall of Donors.

Luce Library Society for Excellence -- $1,000.00 Your support of the "Luce Library Society for Excellence" enriches the collections and enhances the services of the Library. Your plaque of recognition will be displayed within the Library.

Sponsor a Collection -- $2,500.00 Sponsor a library collection from a wide variety of subjects in the Humanities, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Transportation, Oceanography, Maritime Law, etc. Your sponsorship, (family name, loved one, corporation, etc.), will be added to the collections' automated records and viewable via the Library's Catalog over the Internet.

Adopt a Carrel Program -- $5,000.00   Bring encouragement and strength to the long studious nights in the Library's study areas.   Sponsor a Library Study Carrel in recognition of your distinguished family name.

Corporate Sponsorship -- $10,000.00   Exhibit the pride of your corporate flag for one year in the Stephen B. Luce Library (one of the   Oldest Nautical Libraries in the Nation) for thousands of students and library visitors to view.
