Renowned Maritime Author/Historian Frank O. Braynard Signs His Latest Book

On Saturday April 9, 2005 the Library was the venue for a book signing event featuring renowned maritime author/historian Frank O. Braynard. Mr. Braynard discussed and signed copies of his latest book The Bremen & the Europa published by Fort Schuyler Press. Guests at this event also had the opportunity to peruse a Library exhibit of other Braynard’s books and visit the museum’s displays including a display of the ship model “The Bremen.”

Frank O. Braynard, one of the nation’s leading maritime historians, is the author of more than forty books on ships. His first book, Lives of the Liners was a result of his hobby of sketching ships with photographic detail. His more recent works include Smokestacks, a 150 years account of almost every ship built, The SS United States: World’s Fastest Ship, one of the fastest and largest passenger liners built in the USA, and The Bremen & The Europa, about the 1930s German liners. Mr. Braynard is also the founder of Operation Sail (OpSail), which produces tall ship events to commemorate significant times in U.S. history. The most recent event was OpSail 2000 to commemorate the millennium.
