STCW Requirements

A mariner who successfully completes the course will satisfy theBridge Resource Management Requirements in 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(vii); 11.319(a)(4)(vii); and 11.321(a)(3)(iv).

This course covers maintaining a safe navigational watch at the operational level. It covers basic bridge resource management principles; standard ship-handling maneuvers; the effect of wind, currents, shallow water and bank, channel and interaction; attitude and cultural awareness; maintaining open communication and conducting briefing and debriefing sessions; planning and authority; workload and stress; precision navigation including anchoring and SPM; crisis management and decision making; and the human factor in errors.

Prerequisites:

  • U.S. Coast Guard deck license, or an operational or management-level deck license from a nation that is an STCW signatory.

  • Radar observer unlimited endorsement or international equivalent.
