Marine Operations

Marine Operations

Students in the Marine Operations program learn about the business of shipping and fleet management, and choose to pursue either a U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate License or a Third Assistant Engineer License.

The combination of academic classwork and practical knowledge means that you will be ready to sail on commercial vessels or join the shore-side management of a wide variety of companies.

By pursuing a Coast Guard license, you must join the college regiment of cadets. The regiment is a disciplined lifestyle program and is not affiliated with the military. Cadets gain practical experience by sailing on the college training ship, the Empire State VI, during three summer sea terms. Students practice for onboard operations in a variety of simulation centers on campus.

To major in Marine Operations, you must choose to pursue a U.S. Coast Guard license.
