The Marine Transportation program combines business and management courses with hands-on sailing experience.
Classes are taught by faculty with real-world industry experience and knowledge of what it takes to sail a vessel and work in shore-side operations.
If you want to major in Marine Transportation, you must also pursue a U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate License and join the college regiment of cadets. The regiment is a disciplined lifestyle program and the major is not in any way affiliated with the U.S. military. Cadets spend the summer sailing aboard the college training ship, the Empire State VI.
Earning a Coast Guard license demonstrates that you have the knowledge and ability to navigate a ship, handle cargo and assist in other onboard operations.
