Federal aid: FAfsA®

U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens who want to be considered for financial aid must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA®. They must also meet the College’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards. While FAFSA® may be filed anytime between October 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022, for the 2022–2023 school year, Maritime College has priority filing deadlines.

Priority Filing Deadlines & School Code

• New students enrolling in the fall semester: February 1

• Continuing students: March 1

• Spring enrollment: November 1

The school code is 002853 for all Maritime College FAFSA® applications.

If the priority deadline is missed, students may still receive some financial assistance, but certain aid may not be available.

Summer Applications

Federal aid for the summer is available for students typically taking at least six credits. To receive federal aid, a FAFSA® and Maritime College supplemental summer aid application must be submitted.

Students attending summer, fall, and spring terms, will have their federal loans evenly divided.

Graduate students or parents who wish to borrow a PLUS loan should complete the PLUS application and indicate the term(s) for which the loan should apply. To ensure students receive sufficient funding, a PLUS loan application is recommended for summer only and, if applicable, another loan application for fall/spring. PLUS loan applications are available as of April 1.

Students who wish to borrow a private loan should complete all requirements with their lender and indicate the term(s) for which the loan should apply.

Important update to 2022-2023 Verification 
The Department of Education announced (in a Dear Colleague Letter GEN-22-06) that it will be waiving verification of all FAFSA® and Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) information, except for the Identity/Statement of Educational Purpose and the high school completion status.

Maritime is implementing this waiver for the 2022-23 school year and we are actively reviewing student records/files to take action accordingly.

If you have already begun the verification process please review any outstanding tasks on the Self-Service. Please note if there is conflicting information students may still be required to submit documentation.

Every year, a few applicants are randomly selected and asked to verify the information submitted on the FAFSA®. In those cases, and in any instance where an application appears to include inaccurate or conflicting information, Financial Aid will request additional documentation or other verification. If an applicant receives such a request, they should provide the information requested within 45 days to ensure the timely disbursement of financial and to avoid forfeiting or reductions to your financial aid.
