Rebecca Hyams


Rebecca Hyams has worked at SUNY Maritime since the summer of 2013, where she was initially hired as the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian, eventually turning the position into her current position of Cataloging and Digital Services Librarian. Prior to that she worked in the libraries at Nassau Community College and Queens College- CUNY.

Rebecca manages much of the library’s technical service operations including cataloging, systems, electronic resources, and the library’s websites. She serves as the library’s front line technical support for everything from AV equipment to the backend of the library’s circulation system.

She is also very active in professional organizations, including the SUNY Librarian Association, where she is currently finishing out her term as President, and the the IDS Project (a state-wide resource sharing consortium) where she serves as a METRO Region Technology Mentor.

Her research interests include User Experience (UX) design and best practices in developing materials to support teaching and learning. Before becoming a librarian her research interests revolved mostly around the music of Igor Stravinsky and non-functional harmony in 20th century music, which grew out of her studies in music.
