Cadets return from summer sea term Friday at 10 am

The Empire State VI will return to Olivet Pier and SUNY Maritime College by 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11.

The ship will travel up the East River and be visible passing under the Whitestone Bridge and across the Manhattan skyline around 9:30 a.m. Parents, friends and family members are invited to come to campus to watch the ship return and greet the approximately 500 students as they return home.

During the past 90 days, the ship has carried more than 1,000 cadets around the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea for the annual summer sea term. The voyage gives students the experience, education and training that they will need to earn their U.S. Coast Guard licenses and work onboard commercial vessels after graduation.

Read about the journey and track the ship as it approaches the Maritime College campus here.

After the ship docks at the pier, students will disembark from the ship to greet family members. Post-cruise obligations end for first-class cadets at noon Saturday, Aug. 12.  Second-class and third-class cadets will be released from post-cruise at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13.
