Towing forum returns to campus

Due to forecasted winter storm, the 17th annual Towing Industry Forum has been postponed until March 22. Information below has been updated accordingly.

SUNY Maritime College’s Department of Professional Education and Training will host the 17th annual Towing Industry Forum Wednesday, March 22, 2017.

Representatives from maritime companies and affiliates from across the country gather annually at Maritime College to proactively discuss advancements in the towing industry. Topics this year include: new and updated policy for articulated tug and barge (ATB) combinations, implementation of 46 Code of Federal Regulations Subchapter M–Inspection of Towing Vessels, U.S. Coast Guard inspections under Subchapter M, AIS encoding for towing vessels, and limitation of liability for tugboat operators.

“Attendance at SUNY Maritime’s Towing Forum is customary for many towing industry operators and government agencies focusing on the key issues that affect this vital sector of the maritime industry,” said forum founder Capt. Eric Johansson, a marine transportation professor at the college.

Conference speakers include Jerry Crooks, of Shell; Mike Vitt, vice president E.N. Bisso & Son; Cmdr. Heather Mattern, U.S. Coast Guard Sector NY; Cmdr. Ellis Moose, U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center; and Dan Fitzgerald, of Freehill Hogan & Mahar LLP.
