Almost 90 companies, representing various industries, were welcomed to Maritime College for the 2019 Fall Career Fair. Corporations in attendance included American Cruise Line, COSCO Shipping, Con Edison, New York State Police and many more. Both license-track and intern-option students checked in to the event in hopes of networking and learning more about internship and job opportunities.
The career fair is an important event that allows students to become familiarized with the interview process, connect with recruiters and improve their chances of landing a job. “I went to the career fair in efforts to network and explore internship options,” explained Timothy Schackne, a junior mechanical engineering major. As an intern-option student, he is required to complete an internship prior to graduation. Determined to fulfill the necessary actions to earn his degree, Schackne came to the fair with a plan, “I gathered company and contact information, learned where and how to apply for positions and gained insight into each organization.” He emphasized the remarkable benefits of interning, “It will be valuable to gain-hands on experience in a workplace environment while enhancing my résumé.”
The partnerships Maritime College has established with maritime industry and other companies that participate in these career fairs continually support student success and assist in propelling students towards their future careers.
