Members of the SUNY Maritime Community,
The search committee, along with our search consultants, have been hard at work for the past four months looking for individuals who would be qualified to serve as the next President of the College. You should all be proud of the fact that we have attracted a large number of distinguished candidates interested in serving our college. After an initial set of interviews, we have invited candidates to the campus to meet with the wider Maritime College community. Their names and biographies are being posted on the College website, along with a schedule of their visits. We are trying to bring them all forward to meet you before graduation and before the Empire State VI leaves for the Summer Sea Term.
In addition to meeting with various constituencies on campus including the faculty executive committee, students, and campus administrators, to name a few, each candidate will speak at an open forum. The full campus community, alumni, and interested others are all urged to attend these events throughout the week, to hear each candidate give a brief presentation and to answer questions from the audience. Your feedback after meeting the candidates is important to the search committee and the College Council. Accordingly, a web based survey has been established for use by anyone who attends any of the meetings with the candidates as a vehicle to send us feedback. This information will be reviewed by the search committee and the members of the College Council prior to deciding which candidates to forward to the Chancellor for her consideration. Not only will the forums be an opportunity for you to learn more about the candidates, it will also afford you an opportunity to let the candidates know how much you value the College and the special mission it serves.
