Captain Emil Muccin

Emil Muccin is a long-time maritime educator and former master mariner, with extensive experience teaching a range of USCG-approved, STCW-related courses. Emil recently retired from full-time faculty at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, where he was an Associate Professor in Nautical Science.

During his tenure at Kings Point, he served in a variety of roles, including as Assistant Department Head of the Maritime Business division, Marine Transportation Department Coordinator to the USMMA STCW Council and Faculty Advisor to the Cyber Defense, Propeller and Museum Clubs.

Emil also was the former President of the Friends of the American Merchant Marine Museum. He sailed for many years as the Master of paddle wheelers on the Hudson River onboard the River Rose for the Hudson Riverboat Company and River Queen for Montrose Transportation. Additionally, he possesses a Master of Towing Vessels as well as First Class Pilotage for the entire Great Lakes.

Emil is the co-author of a recently-published textbook by Cornell Maritime Press titled Maritime Firefighting. The concept and vision for the Maritime Firefighting textbook commenced during Emil's many years of instructing Basic and Advanced Firefighting, learning firsthand that a modern and new textbook was necessary due to changes in technologies and systems.

Emil graduated from the USMMA with a BS in Nautical Science and from Pace University with an MBA in Information Systems.
