Andrew Dresner Announced As Maritime's Head Football Coach

THROGGS NECK, NY – Maritime College Director of Athletics Jamel Ramsay has announced the hiring of Andrew Dresner as the Privateers' new Head Football Coach. Dresner comes to Fort Schuyler with more than 15 years of experience, including nearly a decade at the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level.

"I am honored to be named the next Head Football Coach at Maritime College," he said. "Throughout this process, it became clear that this is a place built on discipline, accountability and a commitment to something bigger than yourself—values that align directly with how I believe in building a program. I want to thank Admiral Okon, AD Ramsay and the entire search committee for their trust and belief, and for the opportunity to lead this program.

"Our mission will be simple: compete every day, be relentlessly prepared, and operate with discipline in everything we do. We will develop mentally and physically tough football players who are built to handle adversity, lead with character, and represent this institution the right way. I'm excited to get to work building relationships, setting the standard, and continuing to move this program forward."

Dresner spent the last two seasons as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. During his first season with the Crusaders, Holy Cross earned a share of the Patriot League title and had five offensive players named first team all-conference. He guided quarterback Joe Pesansky to more than 2,400 passing yards (which ranked among the Top 25 in the nation) and a Second Team All-Patriot League nod in 2024. In total, Dresner coached 10 all-conference players with the Crusaders, seven of whom earned the honor for the first time.

Prior to Holy Cross, he was the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Stony Brook University during the 2023 season. While at Stony Brook, Dresner's offense had its highest completion percentage (56 percent) in a decade and recorded its best yardage output since 2019. He later served as interim head coach during a coaching transition.

From 2018-22, Dresner was on the coaching staff at the University of Maine, serving first as the Wide Receivers Coach before transitioning to the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach roles. He also spent time as the Black Bears' interim head coach. In 2018, Maine had a historic season, capped by its first-ever appearance in the NCAA FCS semifinals. The Black Bears averaged nearly 350 yards of total offense per game and won their first outright conference championship in five years that season.

Maine twice led the league in passing yards per game (2019, 2021) during Dresner's tenure. Six Black Bears were selected all-conference in 2021, and four players signed professional contracts with either NFL or CFL teams.

A 2010 graduate of Union College, Dresner began his coaching career at his alma mater. As the Wide Receivers Coach and Offensive Coordinator from 2010-11, he mentored All-American receiver Justin Gallo. Dresner spent the 2012 season as the Quarterbacks Coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute before a four-year stint (2013-16) at Merrimack College. In addition to working with the quarterbacks, he was the Warriors' Recruiting Coordinator and Pass Game Coordinator. Dresner then moved on to Pace University in 2017 and led the Setters to their best overall record since 2008 during his one year as Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach.

He takes over a Privateers squad that went 5-6 overall and 3-4 in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play last season. Maritime was selected to play in a bowl game for the second straight year, hosting Hobart in the ECAC James Lynah Bowl.
