SUNY Maritime’s Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner, set for Tuesday, April 30, Recognizes Fresh Meadow Mechanical Corporation, Fresh Meadow Power, Fresh Meadow Chiller Services and Hornblower.

SUNY Maritime College will host its annual Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Marina del Rey in Throggs Neck. Event honorees include Fresh Meadow Mechanical Corporation / Power / Chiller Services and Hornblower.

“SUNY Maritime College is extremely proud of its affiliation with business and industry,” said College President RADM Michael J. Alfultis. “The Fresh Meadow Family of Companies and Hornblower count many of our students and alumni among their employees – for which we are very grateful.”

Fresh Meadow Mechanical, Fresh Meadow Power and Fresh Meadow Chiller Services will be honored at the Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner for their leadership in mechanical contracting. The firm’s commitment to hands-on education and training, a hallmark of the SUNY Maritime College education, is demonstrated by its sponsorship of student scholarships and yearly employment of graduates.

Fresh Meadow Mechanical Owner Michael Russo, Fresh Meadow Power Vice President John Valvo ’83 and Fresh Meadow Chiller Services Vice President Russell Thompson will accept the award on behalf of the company, which specializes in large capital projects such as power plants, hi-rise residential buildings, and commercial and industrial spaces.

Hornblower joined with SUNY Maritime College to establish a key partnership that will fortify the next generation of maritime professionals.  Using the College’s full-mission bridge simulators, Hornblower trains new captains and provide SUNY Maritime College students with internship, career and growth opportunities. Nearly 25 percent of the NYC Ferry workforce is SUNY Maritime College graduates.

A national dining cruise, tourism, and ferry company, Hornblower has served millions of tourists, locals, and commuters throughout the United States and Canada for more than 35 years. Its state-of-the-art vessels and ferries include Statue Cruises, which provides ferry service to the Statue of Liberty National Monument and the Ellis Island Memorial Museum. It operates the Niagara Falls Gorge Boat Tour from the Canadian side of the river and the ferry service to Alcatraz Island in San Francisco.

Hornblower’s NYC Ferry Service has transported more than eight million riders across its six routes to date and employs nearly 400 crew members in the New York area. In early 2019, New York City announced NYC Ferry’s expansion to all five boroughs, with two new routes and additional stops to include a new landing in Throggs Neck.

Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner proceeds directly support the College’s scholarships and academic programs. The event is the signature fundraising event for the SUNY Maritime Foundation, which is the College’s affiliated foundation and is the College’s primary vehicle to raise funds for student scholarships.

Nearly $1 million in scholarships is awarded to SUNY Maritime College students who are academically strong and demonstrate financial need. Last year, more than $800,000 was raised at the Admiral’s Dinner.
