Why choose Maritime?

Initially, I learned about the school through its football program. After that, I looked into what Maritime had to offer. I was impressed by the academic program that the school offers, as well as the career placement rate.

Tell us about your internships.

First, I had the privilege of serving as a congressional intern in the Washington D.C. office of Rep. Thomas Rooney from Florida’s 17th District. While there, I had the opportunity to work on constituent issues as well as aiding the office in their administrative matters. It was during my time here that I learned more about how our government operates at the federal level.

The following summer, I participated in the SUNY Maritime study abroad program. I traveled to Greece, Turkey, Latvia, and Poland with Professor Edmonds, Professor Walwin and a small group of my classmates. I was fortunate enough to not only get a chance to learn about foreign culture, but to study port operations and management with European maritime leaders.

Lastly, I interned with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii. Here, I was involved in the logistical aspect of their annual fundraiser. It was a unique opportunity to be able to see inner workings of a non-profit organization.

What extracurriculars have you been involved in?

I was a member of the football team all four years at Maritime. It was a terrific experience and I’m grateful for all of the help, and support that I have received through Maritime Athletics. Coach Holmes and his staff have done so much for me and I can’t thank them enough.

In addition to my position as a linebacker, I was also a representative of the student government my junior year. I also joined the student-athlete advisory committee, the pre-law society and ODK academic fraternity, and I helped out with the activities of the philanthropy club.

What advice would you share with incoming freshmen?

Time goes by quickly here at Maritime, so take advantage of everything you’re presented. Make use of the tremendous learning environment and get involved on campus.

I’ve had so many meaningful experiences here that it’s hard to narrow down my favorite thing about this school. I’ve received overwhelming support from everyone on the football team and my peers on campus. I’ve made so many close friends here that will last a lifetime.
