Financial Aid

Financial aid consists of funds provided to students and families to help pay for post-secondary educational expenses. The Office of Financial Aid primarily assists students with securing federal and state funds in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and work-study. Students applying for financial assistance must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.

Apply for Financial Aid

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open for the 2025-2026 academic year!

New York State residents should also complete the NYS Student Aid Payment Application. This application allows you to apply for New York State's Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). New York State also has a separate application for NYS Excelsior Scholarship Program and the NYS Stem Incentive Program. Refer to the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) website to learn more about these programs as well as application deadline dates.

Completing and submitting the applications are free and quick, and it gives you access to sources of financial aid to pay for college, if you qualify.

Important Notice on Submitting Forms Electronically

When submitting completed financial aid documents and forms by email to financialaid@sunymaritime.edu please take all adequate measures to encrypt and protect sensitive personal and taxpayer documents.

New Students

New students who plan to attend Maritime for the 2025-2026 academic year should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using 2023 federal tax return information. Include the school code 002853 and apply by the priority deadline of February 1.

New students are automatically considered for merit scholarships through the Admissions process.

Continuing Students

Continuing students who wish to apply for federal student aid for the fall semester should apply by March 1 to be considered for campus-based awards.

Continuing students may apply for need and merit-based scholarships during the academic year. Students are required to complete a FAFSA every year in order to be considered for an institutional scholarship.

Maritime Self-Service Portal

The Self-Service online portal offers useful information such as financial aid awards, financial aid file status, billing statements and more. After logging on to Self-Service, select Financial Aid (to view financial aid status) and/or Student Accounts (to view any bill, student refund, and/or make a payment).

Students who have experienced a change in their financial circumstances since completing their financial aid application may file a Petition for Special Circumstances to determine whether additional financial assistance may be available. Not all changes in financial circumstances will result in increased financial assistance.
