International Admissions

Applying as an international student is easy, though the process is a bit different depending on whether you're applying as a freshman, as a transfer, or as a graduate student. If you have questions along the way, please contact us.

Application Deadlines

Apply as an International Freshman

You should apply as a freshman if you have never attended college before. Here's what to do. 

  • Submit the application. Apply online using the SUNY Application or Common Application.

  • All academic credentials must have an official seal, stamp or signature of a school or government official, and be submitted in the original language (if not in English, it must be accompanied by an exactly worded and certified translation). Upon receipt of your documents we may require further evaluation. All foreign academic transcripts must be evaluated by WES or a NACES approved evaluation service, and translated into English.

  • One letter of recommendation.

  • 250 word essay or personal statement.

  • Submit your English Proficiency test scores via an official score report for the TOEFL or SAT or ACT or IELTS or Duolingo English Test. Please note that TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo English Test scores are not valid past two years.

Apply as an International Transfer

  • Submit the application using the SUNY Application.

  • Arrange for your official college transcripts to be sent to us. All transfer applicants must submit official transcripts of all work taken at any college or university, whether or not they expect to receive transfer credit. If you have attend a college or university overseas you must have the transcripts evaluated by WES or a NACES approved evaluation service, and translated into English.

  • Submit your test scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Duolingo English Test as required. Students attending a college or university overseas must submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo English Test scores. Scores are not valid past two years.

Apply as an International Graduate

  • Submit the application online using the Graduate Application.

  • Arrange for your official school transcripts to be sent to us.  All foreign academic transcripts must be evaluated by WES or a NACES approved evaluation service, and translated into English.

  • Submit a short essay discussing your career plans and reasons for pursuing a graduate degree at SUNY Maritime College.

  • Submit a one page resume.

  • Submit your test scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Duolingo English Test.  Scores are not valid past two years.
