Mico was born in Southern Italy and studied throughout Europe. He embraced an international banking career, with extensive postings in Europe, Asia and Australia.
His association with academia started fortuitously by teaching Coastal Navigation for the local chapter of the U.S. Power Squadron.
Since 2005, he has taught as an Adjunct Professor at several colleges and joined SUNY Maritime in 2015.
