Scholarships

Scholarships and grants are available to help Maritime students pay for college. Scholarships are awarded based on need, merit, or a combination of both and do not require repayment. Each year, the SUNY Maritime Foundation hosts an industry dinner that raises over $1M to provide scholarship assistance. Maritime College offers a wide range of scholarships funded by the Foundation's Sallyport Fund, named endowed scholarships, and grants from the Maritime College Faculty Student Association and the Maritime College Alumni Association. These awards are made possible by the generous donations of alumni, faculty, staff, industry partners, corporations, and friends of the College.

All students are required to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year in order to be eligible to receive an institutional scholarship. Students must also meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards for Federal and State aid and/or if applicable meet Maritime scholarship conditions as indicated by your scholarship agreement.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Institutional Scholarships/Grant Awards

Offered scholarships will be part of the complete financial aid award package, which cannot exceed the budgeted cost of attendance. Institutional scholarships and/or grant awards may be reduced or cancelled if aid is in excess of the cost of attendance (COA). Recipient may forfeit the scholarship if the requirements set forth in the agreement are not met. In order to be eligible for a scholarship, a student must be registered for the applicable course/program at the time of awarding.

Outside Scholarships

If you are eligible for federal, state, or college aid, outside scholarships could affect your eligibility and might reduce the amount of financial aid you qualify for. In most cases where a student receives funds in excess of their COA, the college policy is to reduce their loans and then institutional aid. Check with the Financial Aid Office at financialaid@sunymaritime.edu to understand how the college policy will affect you.

Federal Work-Study

Campus employment is funded by the Federal Work-Study Program and by the College. Students are considered for jobs on the basis of interest, skills, and experience. Scholarships may affect eligibility for Student Federal Work-Study Opportunities. Please check with our Financial Aid Office at financialaid@sunymaritime.edu for more information.

Code of Conduct Violations Policy

Any student who has been found responsible for or has taken responsibility for a Code of Conduct violation, may be disqualified for receiving a scholarship. The Judicial Officer and Deputy Commandant of Cadets will make the appropriate determination based on the egregiousness of the violation.
