PROFESSIONAL MARINER TRAINING COURSES

BASIC TRAINING

Learn how to react in a correct manner during emergency situations, take measures appropriate for survival, and use survival equipment correctly.

Regular, refresher and revalidation options available.

VPDSD (Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties)

Get the knowledge to perform duties in accordance with the requirements of the Maritime Transportation Security Act.

LIFEBOATMAN REFRESHER

Understand how to take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat, manage and safely recover survival craft and rescue boats, and use locating and communication devices.

RADAR RENEWAL

Demonstrate your knowledge of radar plotting through practical exercises using simulators and examinations.

ADVANCED FIREFIGHTING

Perform the necessary duties to control firefighting operations aboard ships.

Refresher and revalidation options available.

ABLE SEAMAN

Perform duties required of an Able Seaman, be aware of obligations under Coast Guard regulations concerning safety and protection of the marine environment, and, be able to take the practical measures necessary to meet those obligations.

College location

Courses take place at SUNY Maritime College campus, located at 6 Pennyfield Avenue, Bronx NY 10465.

All PMT students should park in lot 11, a parking permit will be issued at the start of the class. The Classroom is located in L-203 on the second floor of the Fort/Library building.

Course start time

All courses start at 0800 am.

Tutoring

Though SUNY Maritime does not offer individualized tutoring programs, we can assist in finding a tutor in preparation for various exams.
