Maritime College Announces Bethann Burke as New Athletic Director
Maritime College is pleased to announce the appointment of Bethann Burke as the College's new Athletic Director.
Burke brings more than 13 years of leadership experience in NCAA Division II athletics, most recently serving at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware. As an experienced collegiate athletics administrator and Senior Woman Administrator, she has built a career defined by proven success in sport oversight, coach supervision, budgeting, personnel management, student-athlete development, and departmental operations. A longtime head coach, Burke holds a strong record of both competitive and academic success, alongside significant experience in NCAA governance, Title IX compliance, and institutional leadership.
At Goldey-Beacom College, Burke served as Co-Chair of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Self-Study Committee, providing institutional leadership throughout the accreditation self-study process. She collaborated closely with faculty, staff, and senior administrators to evaluate institutional effectiveness, assess student-success initiatives, and support strategic improvement and accreditation compliance. Burke's leadership extends well beyond her home institution. She served three terms on the NCAA East Regional Advisory Committee for Women's Basketball, contributing to regional governance, championship selection, and policy discussions across NCAA Division II. She has also been an active member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Hall of Fame and Championships Committees, collaborating with conference and institutional athletics leaders on championship administration and governance initiatives.
Her commitment to professional development includes selection to the NCAA Division II Governance Academy through Women Leaders in College Sports (2017 and 2021), as well as the NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy (2019), where she was one of just 30 participants selected nationally for an intensive leadership development program.
With her depth of experience in athletics administration, governance, and student-athlete development, Burke is poised to bring momentum to Maritime Athletics. Maritime College looks forward to the leadership, vision, and experience Bethann Burke brings to the Athletics Department, and is excited to see how Maritime Athletics will transform under her guidance as the College continues to build on its tradition of excellence.
