Summer Sea Term and cadet shipping
Cadets in the Regiment of Cadets pursuing a U.S. Coast Guard license must complete seagoing experience, including Summer Sea Term (SST) and/or Cadet Shipping (on commercial or government-owned civilian-crewed ships). Both experiences provide cadets with valuable hands-on learning on board a ship.
Cadets must complete three seagoing experiences from the following options:
- 3 SSTs on the College Training Ship Empire State VII
- 2 SSTs on the Empire State VII plus 1 Cadet Shipping experience (in lieu of 1 SST aboard the Training Ship)

Summer Sea Term
The Summer Sea Term (SST) at Maritime College is a pivotal component of the academic journey for cadets pursuing U.S. Coast Guard license.

Cadet Shipping
The Maritime College Cadet Shipping program brings together partnering maritime companies and motivated cadets in a professional, industry-supported environment.
