President Okon has developed a fiscal stability plan with avision that inspires confidence in the long-term fiscal health and growth of Maritime College. Above all, this plan puts the focus on the right areas to ensure our beloved institution continues to be the nation’s pre-eminent maritime college, driven by a mission to meet the ever-evolving needs of our students and the maritime industry. As a council, we look forward to our continued work with the President and the campus community to ensure our students have access to the programs and supports they need to be successful now and in the years to come.

A strong Maritime College is vital for a strong maritime industry. This fiscal stability plan is about investing inMaritime’s strengths to ensure students continue to have access to the education and applied learning opportunities they need to be successful in an ever-changing world. On behalf of the SUNY Maritime Foundation, I applaud President 
Okon for the hard work that has gone into creating this plan and stand with the Maritime community as we navigate toward a stronger college in the best position to build on a long track record of service to students.

Each and every Maritime graduate has their own story for how the education we received has paid significant dividends throughout our careers. With this fiscal stability plan, President Okon has laid out a vision to ensure that a new generation of students will have the same opportunities we did and can access the knowledge and skills they need for success throughout their lives. It’s incumbent on the members of the Maritime family to stand in solidarity with the President to support the necessary steps outlined in this plan that will ensure the college remains a beacon for what a high-quality maritime education can and must be

The Bronx is the proud home of many of our state’s top educational institutions, and our own Maritime College plays a vital role in preparing our next generation of global leaders. The plan President Okon has laid out will ensure a strong Maritimethat adds to the Bronx’s reputation as a borough of opportunity. I look forward to continuing to work alongside my colleagues in the state Legislature to ensure that we are investing in a bright future for Maritime students.
