Humanities professor, Dr. John Rocco, has dedicated more than 20 years to strengthening faculty practice, mentoring students and serving as a pedagogical force to advance the college's strategic plan. Serving as Faculty Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and Maritime and Naval Studies master’s degree program coordinator, he continues to enhance academic programs for student success.  

Recognized as one of the State University’s highest honors, Dr. Rocco has been promoted to the rank of Distinguished Teaching Professor by the SUNY Board of Trustees. The Distinguished Professorship is bestowed upon individuals who have attained prominence and an illustrious reputation within their chosen field. Recipients must demonstrate superior mastery of teaching, outstanding service to students and commitment to their ongoing intellectual growth, scholarship and professional development, and adherence to rigorous academic standards and requirements.

In June 2020, Dr. Rocco will be formally inducted into the SUNY Distinguished Academy and presented with a medallion by SUNY Chancellor, Dr. Kristina M. Johnson.
